Building Your Professional Network

As a newcomer to Canada, you have undertaken an exceptional journey. Let us help you take the next step on your path. If you are unemployed, under-employed, or struggling to find work in your profession or trade, our program will pair you with a mentor in your field who will work with you to meet your goals and grow your career.

Program Requirements

Participants in our program should meet all of the following qualifications:

  • be a landed immigrant, permanent resident, or convention refugee
  • possess English-language skills suitable for employment (typically a Canadian Language benchmark level 7)
  • be ready and able to work
  • hold a post-secondary qualification (including the skilled trades) from a country outside of Canada
  • be willing to meet with your mentor on a regular basis

At this time we are not able to accept full-time students into our program.

Participants should not expect their mentors to find them a job. The mentor’s role is to help their mentees expand their local networks and better understand their shared field of expertise within a Canadian context. For help finding a job, NWPB provides its local job board as a streamlined tool for helping newcomers seek work in Niagara. For more personalized guidance, Niagara’s Employment Service Providers can provide one-on-one assistance to newcomers seeking work.
