Alu McCabe immigrated to Canada after growing up in the Philippines in an entrepreneurial family. Her passion for cultivating the human aspects of a business (employee talent) was honed through her work as a training manager for Manpower Services Inc. and, later, as the HR Centre Manager for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. At Royal Caribbean, she managed an international hub that supported over 1,200 staff from 60+ nations. Throughout her journey, Alu has developed a keen appreciation for diversity and inclusion.  

After ten years of adventure, traveling the world, and gaining global HR experience through her work in the international hub, Alu moved back to Niagara and leveraged her experiences to support the growth of local businesses by developing their talent. In 2014, this culminated in her involvement in launching the Canada – Ontario Job Grant program for the YMCA of Niagara. Through this work, she nurtured a strong network and gained a unique understanding of our local workforce through working with more than 70 business around the Golden Horseshoe. Alu then founded Trusted Time Inc., a human resources strategist company, to offer a full suite of HR services. Trusted Time specializes in organizational behaviour and capacity building for employers across private and non-profit sectors.

Last year, we collaborated with Alu through her masters’ research and gleaned much insight into psychological contracts— employee perceptions of employer obligations as this relates to engagement and retention. We get to collaborate with Alu again (and for the next two years) within a new project, called Employer LINK, which proposes to connect local employers with newcomer talent to co-create better, more equitable employment outcomes. In partnership with YMCA of Niagara’s Employment and Immigration Services, Alu will be developing a coaching service to match employers (business owners, HR personnel within organizations, leaders/managers who hire employees) with newcomers who are seeking jobs, as well as support with employee hiring and retention, on a one-on-one basis.
